Ohio State Names Jake Diebler New Head Basketball Coach

Jake Diebler Basketball coach

Ohio State University has officially named Jake Diebler as the new head coach of the men's basketball team, signing him to a five-year deal. Diebler, who had been serving as the interim head coach, took over the role following the departure of Chris Holtmann. Holtmann recently accepted a coaching position at DePaul University.

Diebler, a native of Ohio, becomes the first Ohioan to lead the Ohio State basketball program in 35 years. With eight seasons of experience at Ohio State, Diebler has demonstrated his coaching abilities, guiding the team to a 6-2 record during his interim tenure.

Under Diebler's leadership, the Buckeyes achieved notable victories, including a stunning win over No. 2 ranked Purdue in his debut game as interim head coach. Subsequently, Ohio State secured wins against Michigan State, Nebraska, Michigan, Rutgers, and Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament.

Despite a valiant effort in the quarterfinal game against Illinois, Ohio State narrowly fell short with a 77-74 loss. The team's overall record stands at 21-13, with the Buckeyes not expected to receive an invitation to the NCAA Tournament as Selection Sunday approaches.

Diebler's appointment as head coach reflects Ohio State's commitment to continuity and faith in his coaching abilities. The university's Athletic Director, Ross Bjork, expressed confidence in Diebler's leadership and vision for the program's future.
