Ohio State moves up to No. 40 in latest NET Rankings after Iowa win

We’re still waiting for new projections to come out as far as NCAA seeding goes, but we can tell you where Ohio State is landing in the NET rankings after its big win at home vs. Iowa Tuesday night.

According to the latest release of the new sorting tool used in place of the RPI beginning this year, the Buckeyes have moved up from No. 42 to No. 40.

While that’s not a huge boost, the alternative resulting from a loss to Iowa could have been catastrophic towards NCAA Tournament chances. The reality is that a win now gives the Buckeyes a 5-7 record in the all-important quadrant one matchups at the time of play. Ohio State still has two such matchups left in its final three. It hosts Wisconsin (No. 15 NET) and also plays at Purdue (No. 12) Saturday.

It’s important to note that Iowa has dropped out of quadrant one territory — down to No. 32 — because of the loss to Ohio State, so we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out. Either way, it’s a much needed win.

It’s still bubble territory, but it has softened since last we spoke and at this point, OSU is likely comfortably in the field.
