Ohio State men’s tennis wins regional to advance to Orlando for shot at national title

The Ohio State men’s tennis team has already had a season to remember, and with a 4-1 victory over Columbia in a regional matchup at home, the journey will continue right on to Orlando as one of eight teams that will compete for a national championship.

The Buckeyes have already notched an indoor title earlier this year, and despite being ever so close recently, they have yet to bring home the ultimate prize of an NCAA outdoor national championship.

Now, the chance will be there once again.

This one once again started off on the right foot with the Buckeyes securing the doubles point to go up 1-0. J.J Wolf and Marin Joyce won 6-2, while John McNally and Hunter Tubert took care of business 6-3.

In the singles matches, Hunter Tubert got a point for the Buckeyes first, winning his match easily 6-1, 6-4 to put Ohio State up 2-0. Alex Kobelt then dropped his match 4-6, 3-6 to tighten things up 2-1, but then J.J. Wolf came back from a first set loss to win the next two 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 and put OSU on the brink 3-1. Moments later John McNally sealed it, and the Buckeyes punched their ticket to the Magic City.

The NCAA Championships will get underway Thursday May 16 at the new USTA center. As further information comes out, we’ll have it for you here at Buckeyes Wire.
