Ohio State men’s tennis to play for indoor national title Monday

And it’s time for the rematch.

The Ohio State men’s tennis team got taken down by Wake Forest last year in the outdoor national championship, and now it gets another shot indoors. Both the Buckeyes and Deacons advanced from their respective semifinal today to set up the rematch.

Wake Forest disposed of North Carolina 4-2 Sunday and Ohio State got by Texas with a convincing 4-0 victory. The two will now meet Monday at 1 PM for a shot at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Chicago.

The Buckeyes breezed through No. 6 Texas by taking the doubles point when Alex Kobelt and  Kyle Seelig defeated Markes/Telles (6-2) and John McNally and Hunter Tubert took down the Longhorns’ Ito/Hang (7-6).

Up 1-0, the Buckeyes’ J.J. Wolf got the first singles point to make it 2-0 by defeating Texas’ Sigsgaard 6-4, 6-1. Hunter Tubert then kept things rolling a little later with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory over Chih Chi Huang for a commanding 3-0 lead for OSU.

John McNally sealed the deal with a 7-5, 6-3 clinching victory a little later to halt the rest of the matches and set things up for tomorrow.

Now it’s time to avenge last year’s outdoor championships in which Wake Forest took down the Buckeyes 4-2.
