The Ohio State men’s tennis team is having quite the run of success — knocking off top-ten opponents at a frenetic pace. First, it took down No. 1 Texas, then disposed of a new No. 1 USC, and now it has beaten back a No. 7 ranked Texas A&M squad.
As it seems to always do, things started off on the right foot when the Buckeyes won the doubles point to go up 1-0. Cannon Kingsley and Kyle Seelig got things cooking with a 6-4 victory over Texas A&M’s Pierce Rollins and Stefan Storch. Then, in an exciting come-from-behind affair, John McNally and Robert Cash rebounded from a 1-3 deficit and came all the way back for a 6-4 victory over Carlos Aguilar and Barnaby Smith.
In singles, Ohio State’s Kyle Seelig defeated Aggie Noah Schachter 6-2, 6-2 to put OSU up 2-0. Justin Boulais fell to No. 1 ranked Valetin Vacherot 6-2, 6-3 to get TAMU on the board and close to 2-1, but then both John McNally and James Trotter both won their matches (6-3, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-4) to clinch the match 4-1 for the good guys.
With the win, Ohio State improves to 9-0 and will head into the ITA Indoor Championships this Friday as a favorite to defend its indoor title. It’ll likely be ranked No. 1 when the new rankings come out.
