Ohio State men’s tennis advances to round of sixteen

The journey this Buckeye men’s tennis team has been on all year is still wandering along on a well-paved road as planned. As the No. 1 overall seed and host of a first and second round matchup, Ohio State breezed through the four-team mini-tournament, the last of which being a 4-0 defeat of the Vanderbilt Commodores to clinch a spot in a round of sixteen Regional of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament. And the match will be in Columbus once again with a chance to go to Orlando for the finals.

The Buckeyes started off by winning the doubles point once again to take a 1-0 lead. John McNally and Hunter Tubert won easily 6-0, as did Alex Kobelt and Ryan Seelig 6-3.

From there, the singles matches went equally as well, even with a weather delay and a move indoors to finish things out. Once play resumed, Martin Joyce took his match with ease 6-1, 6-1 as did J.J. Wolf 6-0, 6-1 to put OSU up quickly 3-0. And then shortly after, Hunter Tubert clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-2 for the dominating win.

The Buckeyes will now host Columbia in Columbus at 1:00 PM Saturday. The winner moves on to the new USTA National Campus in Orlando for the NCAA Championship Final Rounds beginning on May 16.
