Ohio State men’s hockey wins Ice Breaker Tournament

The Ohio State men’s hockey team has begun the season in the best of ways — wining its opening tournament by advancing against Western Michigan on Friday night and then beating RIT 3-1 to take the title Saturday.

Things were a little easier Saturday night as the Buckeyes didn’t need to come from behind late in the game. Instead OSU was able to tie the score at 1-1 after falling behind after one period when senior forward Ronnie Hein scored with 10:23 left in the second.

Hein lit the lamp again in later in the period at the end of a major penalty to make it 2-1 with 18:02 left in the game. Then, with 3:18 left in the game, freshman forward Tate Singleton more or less put the game on ice with a goal and that’s where things ended. Ohio State walked away with the Ice Breaker Tournament Championship.

Congrats to Ohio State on getting off to a great start to the season.
