Ohio State men’s hockey takes first game against Michigan

The Ohio State men’s hockey team renewed its rivalry against the Michigan Wolverines on Friday night and came away with a 3-2 victory.

It didn’t start out well, with the Buckeyes falling behind by a 2-0 lead by surrendering a goal in both the first and second periods. But then, Ohio State found its offense, shut down the Wolverines and slowly reeled things back in.

With just a little over 3:00 left in the second period, freshman forward Tate Singleton lit the lamp with just six seconds left on a power play to give OSU the momentum going into the third period.

Early on in the last 20 minutes, Michigan was called for goalie interference, putting Ohio State on the power play. The Buckeyes capitalized when Quinn Preston’s goal held up under review to tie things at two a piece.

Finally, Ohio State took the lead for good just a couple of minutes later when junior forward Austin Pooley was in the right place at the right time. A shot from Ronny Hein deflected off his skate and into the back of the net, and just like that, the Buckeyes had scored three unanswered to take the lead.

The Buckeyes were able to lock it down from there to improve their record to 5-1-1 and will take on Michigan again Saturday at 5:00 PM. A two-game sweep would be awfully sweet.
