Ohio State men’s hockey swept in weekend series by Minnesota

The Ohio State men’s hockey team had a chance to clinch the Big Ten regular season title this weekend. Instead, it got swept by the Golden Gophers at home in a two-game series.

The Buckeyes dropped the first game 4-3 on Friday night, then lost by the same score after an attempted rally Saturday night.

Minnesota jumped out to a 3-0 lead mid-way through the second period before Ohio State finally scored on a Mason Jobst power play goal to get things going. The Buckeyes then closed to 3-2 later in the period on another power play goal, this one by Carson Meyer.

The Gophers then responded with another goal halfway through the third period, and despite a furious rally that would include a goal by Ronnie Hein, and a six on four advantage on the power play at the end of the game, the Buckeyes couldn’t get the equalizer.

Ohio State peppered the Gophers goaltender outshooting them 46-16 for the game, but couldn’t quite break the code.

The Buckeyes will try and clinch the Big Ten regular season again next weekend when they travel to Ann Arbor to take on That Team Up North in a two-game set.
