In a recent debate on ESPN plus, NFL draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay debated 30 questions for the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. Kiper and McShay have long been experts in the area of draft prospects and have fairly respected opinions.
One of the questions that came up in discussion was a favorite prospect who probably won’t be picked on day one. Todd McShay’s answer? None other than Ohio State linebacker and three-year starter, Pete Werner.
McShay raved about Werner’s versatile skill set saying he matches up well in pass coverage, can rush the quarterback, as well as being an effective run stopper.

Werner has grown and developed a great deal since first being named a starter in 2018. Even though was been highly criticized in his first few years, Werner has blossomed into one of the nation’s best, recently being named a Butkus Award Semifinalist.
Through Ohio State’s first four games, Werner leads the team in tackles and tackles for a loss. While that may come as a surprise to many, the OSU linebacker has worked hard to get better each year. And it looks like folks at the next level are starting to take notice.
