Ohio State hockey’s Mason Jobst signs deal with Islanders

Ohio State didn’t finish the season how it wanted on the ice — losing in the Big Ten Tournament and then being ousted in the first round of the NCAA Tournament — but arguably its best player is now ready to resume his career at the next level.

To that end, Mason Jobst — who was the active points leader in men’s NCAA hockey last season — has signed on with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League.

According to Islanders official Twitter account, the deal is a two-year, two-way contract beginning in 2019-20. That means no action this year, but a shot at making a mark next season.

A native of Speedway, Indiana, Jobst played four years at Ohio State, landing several All-Big Ten honors, including the scoring title in the 2016-17 season. He is also a Hobey Baker Award finalist this year.

Good luck to Jobst on the next phase of his career. Hopefully it’s a successful one.
