Any of us who have children of our own, know the sense of pride we get in seeing our kids experience success. And just because you’re one of the most well known college football coaches in America doesn’t make it any different.
We told you a while back that Ryan Day was a pretty good hooper in his high school days. Well, it looks like the apple doens’t fall far from the tree.
Day posted a picture of him with his son R.J. after his team went on to win a tournament championship. But it wasn’t neccessairly the victory that Day was the proudest of. He went on to share that his son was sucker punched in the game and walked away without responding. To which Day also added “better man than me” and a later #lifelessons.
Isn’t that what sports are supposed to be all about? Sure, we want our kids to have fun and win games. But sports are meant for so much more than just trophies.
What a great lesson about self-control and overcoming adversity. Long after the score of that game is forgotten, I have a feeling R.J. will remember how his dad made him feel in doing the right thing.

I’m sure Ryan Day would be the first to tell you he hasn’t always gotten it right. But he for sure got it right this time around. And I think it’s a lesson that all of us who are parents of athletes can learn from.
