Ohio State head coach Ryan Day plans to make starting QB decision Monday

It’s the most often asked question around the Banks of the Olentangy these days when talking to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. Are you ready to name a staring quarterback? And it didn’t take long Wednesday when Day appeared before media just after an open practice to discuss the state of the team.

He was asked that very question right when he stepped to the podium, before he could even make an opening statement.

Only this time, rather than deflecting completely and giving the question the old kick-of-the-can-down-the-road answer, Day provided some framework for when that decision will be made. He also gave a bit of a clue as to who is trending toward being named the starter.

“I think probably what we’re going to do is get through the weekend and then on Monday make a final decision,” said Day … “I think Justin (Fields) is practicing at a high level now, and had a couple of really nice days here.”

So there you have it. It’s not a sign, sealed, and delivered proclamation from the king of the Ohio State monarchy, but it looks like we’ll know who the starter under center will be for the Buckeyes early next week. And if you had any doubt as to who that was going to be, it sure sounds like Fields is well on his way to being the official QB1.

Stay tuned. As soon as news breaks on the named starter at the quarterback position in Columbus, we’ll have it for you here at Buckeyes Wire.
