Ohio State has four players appearing in SI’s Top 100

‘Tis the season of lists in college football. Whether it be ranking coaches, uniforms, mascots, or best sandwiches, almost every website and publication is coming out with preseason rankings of myriad subjects — including this site.

Sports Illustrated isn’t immune either. In fact, it just came out with the top 100 college football players of 2019, and of course there’s a bit of a scarlet and gray hue to it with four Buckeyes making an appearance.

Defensive end Chase Young was the lone top ten appearance at No. 9, while Malik Harrison (76), J.K. Dobbins (82), and Justin Fields (87) all fell much further down the list towards the back-end. Of course these sorts of things are all opinion, but Fields and Dobbins may be entirely too low.

Dobbins in particular has already shown what he can do and should get plenty of carries and opportunities to put up huge numbers now that he’s not going to split time with the graduated Mike Weber. Fields is an unknown, but he too could burst on the scene in Ryan Day’s offense.

He has the tools and dual-threat ability to be a Heisman-type player. He has in fact been up high on the list for almost every Heisman Odds released ever since the news of his transfer to Ohio State became a reality.

Whatever the case, at least some Buckeyes are getting recognition for appearing on a pretty exclusive list.
