Last week, after the Indiana victory, Ohio State was third in the ESPN Power Rankings. While the performance wasn’t exactly a barnburner, the victory over a top ten opponent certainly helped Ohio State stay in the top three. However, with a canceled game against Illinois, ESPN has dropped Ohio State to fourth.
There were some shakeups in the power rankings with some of it due to game results, and others from COVID-19, much like Ohio State. The top four remain the same teams with Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, and Ohio State. Coastal Carolina moves into the top ten, and Miami falls to number ten due to the missed game against Wake Forest. Indiana climbs, Northwestern falls, Texas falls out, and Iowa jumps in.
There are still some games to go, so these things change by the week. However, in the year 2020, seems teams that don’t play get penalized. Doesn’t quite make sense, but that’s where we are at.
