Ohio State freshman safety Bryson Shaw “magically” loses black stripe

We have another black strip alert — the tradition in which Ohio State football newcomers become official Buckeyes by peeling off the outer covering to reveal the scarlet stripe down the middle of the helmet. But this one’s a little different.

This time, it appears the team was treated to a magic show both outdoors and in a team meeting setting. And by all indications according to the video Ohio State football released through its official Twitter feed, the team was amazed, bewildered, and entertained.

The last act may have been the best though. Shaw was asked to come up and try the old tablecloth removal trick, and failed miserably. There was a surprise though. Right after, magician Carl Michael had a drop the mike moment when he grabbed Shaw’s helmet from under the table, laid it on top and walked away.

From there, Shaw thanked everyone and became the latest to go through the traditional right of passage. Click the video below to see, but be careful because the hands can be quicker than the eye.
