Raise your hand if you’ve heard this before — an Ohio State football player has been added to a preseason college football award watch list for 2019. Yep, I thought so.
Ohio State tackle Thayer Munford is the latest Buckeye to find his way onto a preseason watch list with the announcement by the Football Writers Association of America. Munford is entering his junior season and should anchor an offensive line that will have a lot of fresh faces starting. The 6-6, 310 pounder out of Massilon, Ohio garnered All-Big Ten Honorable mention last year, and is poised to have a season to remember in 2019.
The Outland Trophy is one of the oldest awards in college football — first established in 1946, and goes out to the best interior lineman in the game on an annual basis. Ohio State has had four winners in the past with Jim Parker (1956), Jim Stillwagon (1970), John Hicks (1973), and Orlando Pace (1996).
The winner of the award will be announced during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show set to air live on ESPN December 12.
