Ohio State Football takes over No. 2 spot in team recruiting rankings with commitment of Lathan Ransom

It has been a meteoric-type rise in recruiting rankings for Ryan Day and Ohio State over the last few weeks. The narratives of a drop in talent coming to Columbus because of Urban Meyer no longer being in the mix was set, but that lazy commentary by many now must be burned and buried.

That’s because the Buckeyes have gone from just inside the top fifteen in team ratings all the way up to a consensus top-five class according to multiple recruiting services. Ohio State has leapfrogged teams like Penn State and Michigan on the way towards the penthouse, which means the universe is back in balance for now. The flurry of verbals has been dizzying, with fifteen total commits since the end of May alone.

That’s a rate of kids flocking to the program that few have ever seen, if ever in the program’s rich history. Not even under Urban Meyer’s watch.

And now, because of the commitment of four-star safety Lathan Ransom out of Tuscon Tuesday, the Buckeyes have now catapulted over both LSU and Alabama for the No. 2 rated class in the country according to 247Sports.

And there could be more on the way. As we’ve mentioned here on Buckeyes Wire in the past couple of weeks, both five-star running back Bijan Robinson as well as four-star linebacker Kourt Williams are also beginning to trend heavily towards the colors scarlet and gray.

It’ll be tough to catch Clemson for the top spot with what it has done in recruiting this cycle, but a top-five class is nearly a lock at this point.
