Ohio State football player remains missing; Urban Meyer speaks out

Nov. 29--A missing Ohio State Buckeyes football player was mentioned by commentators Saturday during the showdown against rival Michigan.

Kosta Karageorge, a walk-on defensive tackle, has been missing since Wednesday, Columbus police said.

Since that time, police, friends and family have been searching for the 22-year-old who stands at 6 feet, 5 inches and weighs 285 pounds.

For the moment, the case is being handled as a missing person, police said.

Karageorge reportedly has a history of concussions from playing football, and he allegedly told his mother they have taken a toll on him, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

According to the police report, Karageorge's mother, Susan, said her son texted her at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to say, "I am sorry if I am an embarrassment but these concussions have my head .... Up," according to The Dispatch.

No one has heard from him since.

Karageorge's cell signal was last traced to Grandview Heights, which is where people have been searching for him.

Head coach Urban Meyer said in a statement that his thoughts were with the family of Karageorge and he hoped his player was safe, according to the Dispatch.

"He is a young man who joined the football team in August and was a hard worker on the field and pleasant off the field. He has been an important player in practice for us, right up until the time he was reported missing. If anyone knows anything about his whereabouts, please help his family and contact the authorities," according to the statement.
