We are onto prospect number five in our series breaking down the best comparisons for the Ohio State football players eligible for the 2021 NFL draft. We broke down all of the skill positions, including Trevon Grimes (eventually transferred), Trey Sermon, Luke Farrell, and Justin Fields. Now it’s time to move on to the trenches.
Wyatt Davis was one of the more highly touted recruits from his class and played at the legendary St. John Bosco in California. He was redshirted his first year on campus, but developed into an two time All- American at the guard position. We are going to dive into his best all-around comparison and his best former Buckeye comparison.

NEXT … The closest all-around comp to Davis
All-around Comparison: A.J. Cann
Cann was a slightly better prospect than Wyatt, but fell to the third round of the 2015 draft, where he was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cann has been starting at guard for the Jags since his rookie season and although unspectacular, he has been extremely solid and an important part of their offensive line.
As highlighted above, Cann was a slightly better prospect than Davis is now, but Davis may actually be selected higher than the third round. They are both similar in the fact that they are plug-and-play prospects that will provide a consistent level of production. They both have a superior combination of athleticism and strength.
The reason Wyatt is viewed as a lesser prospect is due to his lack of dominance when dealing in space, but both prospects are a jack-of-all-trades master of none type. Overall it wouldn’t be surprising to see Davis have a more dominant career than Cann as Davis is stronger and has an elite anchor that few can compete with.
The #Jaguars are signing guard AJ Cann to a 3-year deal worth just over $15M. #FantasyFootball #FF #DFS #NFL #NFLFreeAgency

NEXT … Best former Ohio State comp
Davis’ best Buckeye Comparison: Rob Sims
Sims played both guard and tackle during his time at Ohio State and was a fantastic staple for the Buckeyes, but Davis is better. Sims was drafted in the fourth round of the 2006 draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He was a starter for Seattle during his second season and was traded to the Detroit Lions in 2010 where he remained until 2014 as a solid starter.
Davis has the potential to be a much better player in the NFL than Sims did, but they are both highly intelligent players that are seemingly aware of all blitzes and stunts. Davis is a much better athlete than Sims was and should allow him to have a more decorated professional career.
