Ohio State football 2021 draft comparisons – Linebacker Pete Werner

The NFL draft will be kicking off in Cleveland, Ohio, in less than three weeks, and more than a few former Ohio State football players will hear their names called during draft weekend. We have been working hard to evaluate the best comparisons for the eligible Buckeyes and have already completed brief reports for Baron Browning, Tommy Togiai & Jonathon Cooper.

Werner has a ton of experience with 27 starts under his belt, and he has the production to match as evidenced by his team-leading 54 tackles from this past season. The former four-star recruit from Indiana is seen as a mid-round talent. Below are some of our favorite comparisons.

Player Profile

Name: Pete Werner

Position: Outside Linebacker

Height: 6-foot, 2-inches

Weight: 238-pounds

All-around Comparison: Brandon Marshall

Marshall was drafted in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL draft out of Nevada by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He found the most success with his second team, the Denver Broncos where he won a Super Bowl. He also spent one season with the Oakland Raiders.

Werner is a tad bit of a better prospect than Marshall was coming out due to his great length, but they are both backers that have ideal size with great production and versatility. Werner should have a similar career as a consistent role player.

Werner’s best Buckeye Comparison: Raekwon McMillan

I compared Baron Browning to Raekwon McMillan earlier in this series, but the comparison is valid for Werner as well. McMillan was a much better prospect than Werner is now, but they both come in with fantastic college production. McMillan is elite at diagnosing plays and Werner is a tad behind in the department, but he has the ability to etch out a similar career to McMillan.
