Ohio State defensive end Chase Young now tied for 2nd most sacks in program history

It’s no secret that Ohio State defensive end Chase Young is a beast. Of course Buckeye fans know how dominating he can be, but a lot of the country got introduced to him in a big way Saturday against Wisconsin. The 6-5, 265 lb. physical specimen had four sacks, a couple of strips, and a bushel of meet and greets with Badger players in their own backfield Saturday.

He’s now starting to gain some well-earned attention in the Heisman race despite being a defensive player, and we’ll just have to see how it all plays out. It’s unlikely voters will want to pull the trigger on a defensive player winning the thing, but simply being in the conversation is saying something.

Either way, with the four sacks of Badger quarterback Jack Coan, Young now has 13.5 sacks this year, and 27.5 sacks for his career at Ohio State. And that — if you didn’t know — is tied for 2nd place with Jason Simmons all-time in program history. The only guy he’s now behind is the beloved great Mike Vrabel.

It’s unlikely that Young will be able to catch Vrabel (unless he keeps racking up four a game like Saturday), but he’s definitely going to be known as one of the best pass-rushers in Ohio State history. And there’s no doubt he is an absolute lock for an early first-round NFL draft pick.
