Ohio State defensive end Chase Young now receiving votes in at least one Heisman Watch poll

USA Today’s experts are loving the Buckeyes. In its recent Heisman Trophy Watch, the Buckeyes were the only team to boast two players. That’s even more notable when you notice only seven players made the list.

Of those seven, five were quarterbacks, one was Wisconsin’s Jonathon Taylor and the other was … wait for it — Ohio State’s defensive end and consensus potential top-five pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Chase Young.

Young has been dominant this season and is clearly the nation’s best pass rusher. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end is in his third season at Ohio State.

Through just four games, he’s put together a stellar resume that includes a nation-leading eight sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss. Talk about impressive. Chase Young is an absolute monster.

However, the defender received just one third-place vote in USA Today’s Heisman Watch poll that’s dominated by Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts. Still, a purely defensive player getting some Heisman love is always noteworthy.

Columnist Eddie Timanus didn’t give Fields or Young too much attention. They were both mentioned in a quick back-to-back few sentences, but that could change as the season goes on and success continues to be a part of the duo’s recipe.

“Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has moved into fourth. Also on the radar with a single point apiece are Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor, Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman and Ohio State defensive end Chase Young.”

That said, it’s impressive enough for Young to be on the list, and hopefully, after what should be another strong performance against Michigan State, he’ll stay in the top-seven.
