Ohio State defensive end Chase Young makes move in USA TODAY’s Heisman Watch

The Heisman race is getting very, very interesting at least according to one poll administered by USA TODAY. It’s “Heisman Watch” piece polls 21-members of the network who are actual Heisman voters on their top three each and every week.

Just like the real thing, only with a smaller sample size.

Former Ohio State and current LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is now the clear front-runner in the poll with 14 first place votes and 54 points overall, but something very interesting is starting to take shape as well.

Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts is still high on many of the voters’ elections, but the Sooners’ loss last weekend did him no favors. Also, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa isn’t going anywhere but his injury might make everyone take a wait-and see-approach. He has fallen somewhat.

The biggest move this week however appears to be the sudden arrival of Buckeye defensive end and human wrecking ball Chase Young. He now has more points (11) than two other Ohio State players, running back J.K. Dobbins (3), and quarterback Justin Fields (2).

For as much publicity and praise Young got after last week’s dominant showing against Wisconsin, it’s actually a bit surprising there wasn’t a further move than just being on the radar.

At least for now, it appears his name is getting thrown into the ring. If he can continue to put up the type of game film and sacks — more sacks and more sacks — he might be able to actually make a run at getting to New York.
