Ohio State commitment and No. 1 receiver in 2022 class, Caleb Burton, reaffirms his pledge to Buckeyes

Ohio State has already put together some pretty impressive commitments for the 2022 football recruiting class despite it only being January of 2021. One of those is the country’s top wide receiver, Caleb Burton, out of Del Valle, Texas.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Burton is ranked as the top receiver and No. 14 overall prospect in the entire class.

He was another of Texas’ best prospects that shunned the Longhorns and committed to a program out of state. That was how things went at the end of former Texas coach Tom Herman’s tenure, but now there is a new man in charge of the program, former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

Many believe that now that Sarkisian is the head coach in Austin, some of those prospects that got away may re-consider. When that discussion comes up, Burton’s name is one that is on the shortlist of commitments Longhorn fans believe could be flipped back to the color of burnt orange.

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Far from it in fact. According to Texas insider C.J. Vogel, Burton remains very much committed to Ohio State and has established a very strong relationship with Buckeye wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.

This is good news for OSU. Based on the way things went in the national championship game, you had to at least be a little worried about a Texas kid getting excited about what Sarkisian showed he could do with the future of the Texas offense.

So far so good though for the Buckeyes’ commitments that Texas might want to try and bring back home. We haven’t heard a lot from quarterback Quinn Ewers, but if we do, we’ll be on top of that.
