Ohio State comes in lower than you’d expect in Sports Illustrated’s search for Defensive Back U

If you’ve been following us here at Buckeyes Wire over the last few days, you know that we’ve been following what the folks at Sports Illustrated are doing by each position group. You’ve heard the arguments and Twitter wars over which program is the best at churning out talent at each position, but SI has attempted to settle the score.

Well, in the case of naming a program Defensive Back U, it likely only ignited a further debate, especially with Buckeye Nation. Now, before we go too far down the rabbit hole, a couple of notes. First, Sports Illustrated is only looking at the timeframe from 2010 on. Secondly, the way of measuring these things is mostly subjective. So much so that all you have to do is look at ESPN naming Ohio State DBU.

So yeah, opinions vary greatly. It likely comes down to whether you prefer a meal of brats and beer, or grits and sweet tea.

But back to the modern age Defensive Back U, as SI is calling it. It has Ohio State not even in the top three. LSU appears at No. 1, followed by Alabama, Florida, Florida State, and then — yep, Ohio State all the way down at No. 5.

What do you think? Clearly, OSU has sent a lot of talent to the NFL in the defensive backfield. Maybe we should just stick with the term Jeff Okudah began using last year and call the Buckeye secondary BIA (Best In America).
