Ohio State CB Kendall Sheffield suffers chest injury at NFL Combine

Ohio State cornerback Kendall Sheffield suffered a possible torn pectoral at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday while completing the bench press, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Sheffield will have an MRI to confirm how severe the injury is. The possible torn pectoral muscle occurred during his seventh repetition:

NFL Network’s Kim Jones and ESPN’s Josina Anderson provided further clarity Monday:

Ohio State CB Kendall Sheffield tells me he has partially torn left pec. Surgery not needed. He’s in a sling but is here on the floor, supporting his fellow CBs. Good job by him doing that.

I'm told as of now, a preliminary ultrasound shows a partial tear in Ohio St CB Kendall Sheffield's pectoral muscle. However, the plan is to have a follow up MRI in Houston. Sheffield is very disappointed bc he was clocking high 4.2s in the 40 in pre-combine training, per source.

This marks the second consecutive year that a Buckeye got hurt in the same drill. Last year, former Ohio State and current Bengals center Billy Price suffered the same injury during the bench press.

Sheffield recorded 75 tackles, two forced fumbles and two interceptions during his two-year career for Ohio State.

He was considered a mid-to-late round selection entering the combine but will no longer get the chance to raise his stock. NFL teams that are still willing to draft him might be able to have him fully recovered by the beginning of the 2019 season.
