Ohio State basketball transfer Jimmy Sotos’ waiver approved

The Ohio State basketball program got some very good news on Thursday. According to an announcement from hoops head coach Chris Holtmann, Bucknell transfer Jimmy Sotos has received a waiver to play immediately.

The decision is a welcome one because the Buckeyes are suddenly looking rather thin at the ball-handling spot. Earlier in the fall, Holtmann said that Harvard graduate transfer Seth Towns will most likely not be ready to go at the start of the season as he continues to rehab. Additionally, in a release yesterday, the Buckeye program announced that point guard Abel Porter has had to end his basketball career due to medical reasons.

“Jimmy Sotos, his waiver was approved,” said Holtmann through his Twitter account. “We got word on that this morning. So we appreciate the work of our compliance and the NCAA’s consideration.”

As a reminder, Ohio State’s initial request for an exception for Sotos was denied, but it appears as though the appeal on the decision was successful.

Sotos himself was excited and took time to make note of the exciting news on his own Twitter account.

Sotos averaged 11.5 points, 3.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds for the Bison last season. And now, instead of getting into the mix next year, he’ll enter the fray this winter.
