Ohio State basketball ranked No. 10 preseason by Sports Illustrated

We’ve said it before, but nobody can seem to figure out this year’s Ohio State basketball team. The rankings have ranged from the top ten to a fringe top 25 team. We tend to lean on the Buckeyes being a bit undervalued with the returning talent, depth and athletic ability being infused into the program with the new class.

But, we’re an Ohio State site, so we don’t count. Right?

Regardless, we have another example of a pretty high projection coming out, and comes by way of the Sports Illustrated college basketball preview. Though the popular and historical sports magazine has lost some readership over the years, it’s still a very well respected measuring stick.

And that measuring stick has been set at No. 10 in the country. Here’s what Joe Wilkinson says about the Buckeyes high ranking.

“Not only do the Buckeyes have two-thirds of their scoring back, including 6-9 post Kaleb Wesson (14.6 ppg), but they also have three four-star recruits when Wesson (3.2 fouls per game) has to go to the bench.”

Time will tell just how this team meshes together, but if head coach Chris Holtmann can make the NCAA Tournament with the last couple of teams, what’s he primed to do with an infusion of talent this year?

We’ll find out soon enough. Ohio State tips off the season Wednesday night against Cincinnati at the Schott.
