Ohio State basketball offers 2023 power forward from Illinois

Ohio State football is getting all the attention currently in June. With the NCAA recruiting dead period lifted, Ryan Day is hosting a plethora of four and five-star recruits all month. But the football team isn’t the only one making the most of its opportunities this summer.

Chris Holtmann and the coaching staff are busy meeting with recruits as well looking to secure the next crop of talent in Columbus.

We’ve been saying for quite some time now that OSU needs to add some size. With guard play aplenty for the Bucks, Holtmann sees the need as well and the head coach wasted no time making an offer to 6 foot 9 inch, 220 pound Owen Freeman out of Bourbonnais, Illinois who made an unofficial visit on Wednesday.

Freeman doesn’t have a ranking on his 247 sports profile just yet, but that will most likely be changing soon. The big man is racking up offers it seems on a daily basis from power programs all across the country. Names like Iowa, Purdue, Illinois, Butler, Wake Forest, and more have all invited Freeman to join them on the hardwood.

As a rising high school junior, he’s still growing and will most assuredly add more bulk. He has moves to play inside but also has a smooth stroke from beyond the ark. I was able to catch up with Freeman and asked him about his visit to Ohio State.

“The coaching staff at Ohio State was very welcoming and I loved taking the trip out. Ohio State basketball has an elite status to its name and lives up to it. The facilities and opportunities the players have are amazing.” Freeman said

Ohio State has had a pretty good history of getting some excellent talent from the Land of Lincoln. Could the up-and-coming Freeman be the next big name to come out of Illinois and star in Columbus? Looks like Chris Holtmann is hoping so.
