Ohio State baseball team takes series over No. 24 Michigan

The Ohio State baseball team used the momentum of a huge home crowd on Saturday to break out the bats and get timely pitching to split a double header and take two out of three from the No. 24 Michigan Wolverines.

The Buckeyes took game one on Friday night and then had to play a double-header on Saturday because of some impending weather set to hit the Columbus area on Sunday. It took care of the series by winning game two 10-4, then dropped the final game 6-2.

But still, winning a series against perhaps the best team in the league will hopefully act as a catalyst towards more consistent play for the scarlet and gray.

Dominic Canzone continued to pace the Ohio State offense against TTUN by going 9 for 14 (.643) with four RBIs and four runs scored over the weekend. He extended his bases reached streak to 33 games and had a double, triple, and two home runs in the series.

He continues to be the the Buckeyes best player at the dish, and this time he did it against one of the best pitching staffs in the Big Ten.

If Ohio State is going to continue to reel back the rest of the conference though, it’s going to have to get things turned around on the mound. Against Michigan, when the starters worked deep into the game, the team won. Seth Lonsway went 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on five hits. It’s not a dominate outing, but more like what the team needs going forward.

The successful series improves Ohio State’s record to 20-17 overall, and a 4-5 record in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes will face Xavier at home for a mid-week non-conference home game Tuesday.
