Ohio State Baseball’s Seth Lonsway named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

The Ohio State baseball team was recognized by the Big Ten Conference for its play last week. Most specifically, pitcher Seth Lonsway was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week Monday, largely for his efforts against Rutgers when he threw a complete game shutout this past weekend.

Here is the complete release from Ohio State.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Redshirt freshman left-handed pitcher Seth Lonsway was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Lonsway, from Celina, Ohio, earns his first career weekly award. This is the third time a Buckeye has been recognized by the Big Ten in 2019.

Lonsway was dominant on the mound in his B1G debut, throwing a complete game shutout with a season-high 12 strikeouts in a win at Rutgers last Saturday. Lonsway scattered three hits and struck out every hitter in the Scarlet Knights’ starting lineup. He became the first Buckeye to throw a complete game shutout since Ryan Riga threw a complete game shutout in 2015. He also was the first Buckeye pitcher to strike out at least 12 hitters in a game since Alex Wimmers (14, 2010). Lonsway is 4-2 with 51 strikeouts in 38.1 innings of work this spring.

Ohio State begins a four-game homestand with a midweek game against Cincinnati at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
