Ohio State baseball loses 8-3 to Bethune-Cookman for four game split

The Ohio State baseball team couldn’t keep the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats off the base paths today and it resulted in a sloppy 8-3 loss. The Buckeyes split the series by winning the middle two, but dropping the bookends of the games in Daytona Beach.

After a scoreless first inning, several miscues by Ohio State assisted the Wildcats in a six-run spot in the second inning. There was technically only one error in the inning, but one ball was lost in the sun, and another was of the infield variety. Next thing you know, the Buckeyes were in a hole 6-0 early on.

OSU got two runs back in the third inning with back-to-back doubles and an RBI ground out by Matt Carpenter, but couldn’t get much closer. They got their last run on an RBI single by Dominic Canzone in the top of the fifth.

Starting pitcher Jake Vance was saddled with the cruel loss — only giving up two earned runs in five innings of work to fall to 1-1 on the season. As a team, Ohio State’s record is now 7-3 on the year.

The Buckeyes travel to Greenville, South Carolina for the First Pitch Invitational next weekend. It’ll play Furman, Big Ten foe Michigan State, and Western Carolina.
