Ohio State baseball knocks off Penn State for series win

The Buckeye baseball team is starting to get some key wins at just the right time. It took care of business today in game one of a doubleheader against Penn State at home 2-0. It now finds itself more secure when it comes to being one of the eight teams to make the Big Ten Tournament, but there’s still work to do.

Ohio State got an outstanding effort on the mound from starting pitcher Seth Lonsway. He pitched eight innings of shutout ball that included a career high thirteen strikeouts. With the win, he improved his record to 6-4. Andrew Magno came on and loaded the bases but fought through it for his tenth save of the year.

At the plate, the hero was Matt Carpenter. In a tight pitcher’s dual that went scoreless into the 7th inning, he delivered a two-run double for the only scoring of the game.

With the victory, the Buckeyes improve their record to 27-23 overall and 9-11 in the Big Ten. The win puts the Buckeyes just 1/2 game back of eighth place in the conference — the spot it needs to get to for inclusion in the conference tournament.

Ohio State will next take on the Nittany Lions in game two of the double-header. We’ll have recap when it’s over.
