Ohio State baseball drops close game to Bethune-Cookman in first of four

After a successful start to the season, the Ohio State baseball team has hit a bit of a skid. After starting the 2019 campaign 4-0, the Buckeyes have dropped three of the last four.

The latest was a game in which Ohio State tried to rally but came up short 4-3. The Buckeyes spotted Bethune-Cookman four runs before they finally got the bats going in the seventh inning.

Brent Todys banged out Ohio State’s third-straight hit in a row in the inning to bring home Brady Cherry, but the threat went no further with two men on, and the score remained 4-1.

In the ninth, the Buckeyes got the bats going again. With two on, and two outs, Zach Dezenzo singled to bring two home and cut the lead to 4-3. But that was all the closer Ohio State could get as the Wildcats got the last out on a pop-up to walk away with a one-out win.

Unfortunately, a good pitching performance by Seth Lonsway was wasted. He gave up a couple of runs in the first because of walks but struck out eleven hitters in less than five innings.

Ohio State is back at it tomorrow against Bethune-Cookman at 6:00 PM.
