Ohio State came into 2019 with a bit of a chip on its shoulder. That’s because the team was perceived to be a bit undervalued, underappreciated, and underrated.
Now that three games have passed, experts, websites and other publications are beginning to sing a very different tune for the prospects of Ryan Day’s first season in Columbus. The truth is — Ohio State has looked fantastic so far, and it appears as though there’s less holes on this year’s team than what we saw even last year during Urban Meyer’s swan song.
The popular analytics website fivethirtyeight.com agrees with that notion after three weeks of the college football season as well. It released its 2019 College Football Playoff predictions and odds, and the Buckeyes now have the fourth best chance at making the College Football Playoff according to the calculations and formulas used in making such things public. That chance is set at 33% for Ohio State.
So, what teams are ahead of Ohio State? You can probably guess the usual suspects. Currently, Clemson has the best chance at 75%, Alabama comes in 2nd at 46%, and Oklahoma is just ahead of the Buckeyes at 37%. Georgia is just outside the top four with a 27% chance.
The 2019 College Football Playoff Predictions also have additional metrics and give OSU a 35% shot at winning the Big Ten, and a 8% chance at winning the national title in 2019.
So make your plans now. Or not, unless you also want to publish chances of throwing your money away.
