Ohio State and SMU only bowl-eligible teams following Week 6

The Ohio State Buckeyes, a consensus top-five team, is already bowl eligible. OSU won its sixth game of the season Saturday night against the No. 25-ranked Michigan State.

To be bowl eligible, a team must have at least six wins. However, Florida is 6-0, so aren’t they bowl eligible?

Well, while Florida has a more impressive victory than Ohio State, taking down No. 7 Auburn yesterday, they also have two wins over FCS schools, only one of which counts towards bowl eligibility.

As for Ohio State, it has downed inner-conference opponents Indiana, Nebraska and Michigan State to go along with beating up on Florida Atlantic, Miami (OH), and Cincinnati.

Not even Florida Atlantic is considered an FCS opponent.

While being bowl eligible is appealing, it’s certainly not the end goal for Ohio State. The Buckeyes don’t want to just be bowl eligible. No, they want to march their way to the College Football Playoff.

For this week only, the two colleges are the only two that are bowl eligible. SMU, a top-25 team, is 6-0 yet has yet to play a top-25 opponent. We really don’t know how solid this SMU team is yet.
