Dayton Ohio crash: Two children dead and 10 people injured as stolen police vehicle crashes into parked cars

Two children have been killed and at least 10 people injured after a stolen police car crashed into a van and other parked cars in Dayton, Ohio.

They were parked outside the Dayton Public Library when the police car smashed into them on Monday night.

Tiffany Hamiel told WHIO-TV: “I was terrified. There were car parts flying all over the street."

According to Dayton Police Lieutenant Eric Henderson, police originally responded to a report of a stabbing but the suspect had fled.

Police in nearby Riverside received an emergency call about a car that had driven into a tree – which was driven by the stabbing suspect.

But when the Riverside officer exited his car, the suspect stole it and fled the scene at high speed.

Eleven people were in the van, including seven children.

Witness Denorris Hopgood told WHIO that he heard the children scream.

He said: "I jumped out and did my best to get as many children out of the van as I could."

All 11 occupants were taken to hospital and at least three of them were in a life-threatening condition when they were transported.

Lieutenant Henderson confirmed that two of the children later died.

Two Riverside officers also sustained minor injuries when the suspect crashed the vehicle.

The unnamed suspect was also injured in the crash and is receiving medical treatment.

He remains in custody and police are continuing their investigations.
