An Oakland, California baker received a surprise cake order that left her stunned: It came from her boyfriend’s wife. In a now viral saga that has grossed over 600,000 views, spanning multiple updates, Ashley (@shelleyjayyy) explained the difficult and tricky situation she ended up in when “the love of her life” revealed his true colors.
Ashley, who runs a home business called Bake Sis Bakery with her sister, shared the story on TikTok. She met her boyfriend through his job, and they quickly hit it off. About a week into dating, he told her he had a son, which she said didn’t bother her. Over time, she grew to consider him one of her “best friends” and “greatest loves.”
As their relationship developed, Ashley began baking for him and his son, often dropping off food at his workplace. After four months of dating, she decided to surprise him with a red velvet cake for Father’s Day, even though she doesn’t typically make that flavor for clients. She included her business card with the cake and left it at his job.
The drama begins
Soon after, she got a call from a woman requesting a red velvet cake. The woman said she had one of Bake Sis Bakery’s cakes before. Confused, Ashley asked where she had tried it. The woman replied, “My husband brought home a red velvet cake from your bakery on Father’s Day.”
Ashley immediately realized something was wrong. She stayed on the call to gather more information while keeping her composure. The woman mentioned the cake needed to serve several people and said her husband had multiple children. When she shared the man’s name and the delivery address, Ashley recognized them both—it was her boyfriend.
Ashley shared the experience in a video posted July 12 and asked her viewers for advice.
“How long do I play this game with him?” she asked. “To find out he was never mine? That’s what’s messing with me.”
Commenters speculated that the wife already knew about Ashley and ordered the cake as a trap. One viewer advised, “Have someone else deliver that cake. Move in silence, make that bread and that cake. Block and delete. He was never yours.”
Another wrote, “She likely knows. Have a male you know make the delivery. Take her money. Block him. Don’t look back. You’re better than being a side girl.”
Did she confront him the next day?
Ashley confirmed in a July 14 update that she had no idea he was married with three children. “On Friday nights, that was when I would go over there or we would have date nights,” she said. “We would either go out or I would stay at the house.”
She also explained that the wife worked at a club in San Francisco on Fridays and Saturdays, which explained her absence.
Ashley avoided seeing her boyfriend in person the week after the cake order, telling him she was sick. He repeatedly tried to contact her over the weekend, but she ignored him until Sunday night.
“I had to know why he did it, for my sanity,” she said. “He pretty much told me there’s a lot going on at home.”
She told him the story was going viral and gave him 24 hours to come clean to his wife or she would.
Ashley ultimately decided not to make the cake. After receiving texts from the wife, she learned he never confessed. So, she made the call herself.
“She was very understanding,” Ashley said in a July 15 update. “She did express to me that she had an idea of who I was, so you guys were right.”
In the end, Ashley baked a red velvet cake and decorated it for her new TikTok audience, removing herself from the situation and ignoring her ex-boyfriend.
