'Oh my God' - Dimitar Berbatov stunned by Liverpool fan who refused giant bet cashout

The Liverpool fan who almost won £367,000 thanks to a bet she placed on the Reds winning the quadruple has received a £1,215 consolation prize thanks to former Premier League star Dimitar Berbatov.

Ahead of the start of the season, Tanya Hanley from Liverpool placed her first ever bet, staking £100 with Betfair on the Reds to win all four major trophies at odds of 3,671/1. After a dramatic final day, where it looked as if Liverpool could win the league with Man City 2-0 down to Aston Villa with just 14 minutes to go, Tanya refused to cash out. Despite the cash out prize going up to a massive £95,000 with 20 minutes to go, she held firm and ended up heartbroken having missed out on anything.

However, Berbatov, a Betfair ambassador, got involved through #VARBATOV and the company will now pay her £1,215, the final cash out offer to Tanya in the 92nd minute.

“Oh my God she didn’t cash out,” Berbatov told Betfair. “VARBATOV is here - I hope you enjoyed the last day of the season. Of course I saw the news about Tanya the Liverpool fan and the cash out went up to £95,000. I’ve been speaking to people at Betfair. The final cash out offer in the 92nd minute was £1250. Tanya you didn’t cash out but don’t worry I am cashing out the final offer for you. Why? Because it’s only fair. Enjoy, have a nice holiday and thank me later.”

Ahead of the weekend, Tanya was full of confidence that her bet would come in. When explaining the bet, she said to Betfair last week: “I just had a feeling that Liverpool could do it and that something big was going to happen. I had a wager with a friend on it, they had put a bet on it too, then I saw the odds that Betfair had for Liverpool to win all four trophies and I opened an account and placed my first ever bet.

“It's a big amount but I’m not swayed as I believe in them, they've come so far. It's the closest anyone has ever been to winning the Quadruple, I really feel like they could do it.”

Despite the late heartbreak, Tanya will at least have a profit to take away thanks to the efforts of the former Manchester United star.
