'Oh my God' - Ben Foster reacts after last-gasp Wrexham penalty save vs Notts County

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster admitted that he dived and hoped for the best as he saved a last-minute Notts County penalty to secure victory for Wrexham.

Before kick-off, the match was deemed the 'most important in National League history' and certainly lived up to its billing. John Bostock gave Notts the lead with a stunning free kick on the stroke of halftime.

Wrexham regrouped at the interval and were back level on 50 minutes through Paul Mullin. With just over 20 minutes remaining, Jacob Mendy's strong strike had given the North Wales club the advantage.

But, the pendulum swung back into the balance in the 75th minute as Kyle Cameron headed the Magpies level. With 12 minutes to go, Elliot Lee looked to have put the game beyond Notts when he made it 3-2 but the drama was just beginning.

Deep into stoppage time, Luke Williams' side were awarded a penalty for handball. Substitute Cedwyn Scott stepped up but Foster guessed correctly to save the strike and win the match for his team.

Speaking to BT Sport post-match, Foster summed up his reaction to the victory. "Look at it, listen to that, this is non-league yeah, we fill this out every week, 10,000 fans," the jubilant 40-year-old said.

"We took 4,500 to Halifax last week, we put on an awful performance we needed to win big today, incredible." When asked about his penalty save, Foster added: "You just dive and hope for the best.

"If you go the right way and get a hand on it you would like to think you would save it. To go in at 1-0 at half time we were a bit despondent but that second half, the boys, oh my God, this guy here (Mullin), wow incredible."
