Oh Hyeon-gyu earns South Korea call-up as Celtic star sees 'passion' admission rewarded

Oh Hyeon-gyu's stock is on the rise as the new Celtic star realised a 'dream' by being called up for South Korea.

The forward made a switch to the Scottish champions in January and has already impressed Parkhead fans with his drive and passion. Oh has two goals to his name for Ange Postecoglou's side after playing just over 200 minutes of football so far in Glasgow. The 21-year-old had previously worked his way through the ranks being capped at Under-14s level all the way to Under-21s.

Now Oh can make it only a second cap in upcoming fixtures against Colombia and Uruguay, after making his international debut in an 18-minute appearance last year. The World Cup in Qatar brought about heartache for the youngster after his understudy status for Tottenham hero Son Heung-min was cut short when the top star passed fitness for the tournament.

But now the forward has the chance to represent his nation again and admitted recently it was a 'dream'. Oh said this week: "I have not heard from the national coach yet, but all players dream of playing for their national team.

“If I were to get the chance to be involved again I would be very grateful and give everything I have got for my country. “I played at different representative youth levels and last year I was given my debut for the senior side.

“That was the realisation of a childhood dream and since then, my passion for my country has grown ever bigger.”
