Oh, baby – a new take on David Cameron's coalition government

Young Nick hasn't yet thrown his toys out of the pram – but it's early days if this picture is anything to go by.

Think of it as an antidote to all the stuff written about David Cameron nuzzling noses with his new daughter, Florence, over the weekend (full marks to the Observer for the "in a single camera click, transformed from world statesman to humble everyman" line).

It's really one of those glorious pieces of photoshopping requiring no caption – but there's no need to let that hold us back.

Political Scrapbook has already suggested: "Of course, like all babies, within three years it will be throwing tantrums in public, answering back and saying "no" to everything."

The New Statesman went for "Following a bitter parentage row, we can now confirm that the baby in the picture is David Cameron's."
