March 30--A fire that erupted in a Lakeview neighborhood home was possibly electrical in nature, police said.
Nobody was hurt when a blaze broke out at an unoccupied home Sunday about 3:10 p.m. in the 1400 block of West Roscoe Street, police said.
As 3:35 p.m. no injuries have been reported and a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said the fire, which started on a second floor, is out.
The spokesman said they received multiple calls about the 2-1/2 story wooden home on fire and there were initially concerns that it could spread.
One witness was walking home and saw a number of firetrucks and engines racing down the street. She became alarmed.
"I was walking down Southport and I saw smoke," she said. "I was really scared that it was my house."
The blaze luckily turned out to be four houses away.
As she got closer she could see billowing smoke and flames on the upper level of the house. She then spotted a firefighter walk up a ladder and get on the roof.
"It was very dramatic," she said.
Occupants of the two homes on either side of the burning building rushed outside, many of them carrying pets.
"Two women came outside (from the fire home),'' she said. "They were upset. One was on the phone. They got out."
Police said the fire, which left five people displaced, could have been electrical in nature and foul play is not suspected.
