Aug. 27--Arson investigators are looking into the cause of three small fires that burned Thursday dangerously close to large multimillion-dollar homes in the Beverly Crest neighborhood.
A man who was detained and questioned at the scene has been released after investigators determined he had nothing to do with the blaze, said Erik Scott, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fires were discovered about 12:54 p.m. burning along the 3300 block of North Beverly Glen Boulevard near Mulholland Drive, Scott said.
Flames burned through extremely dry brush in the area but were quickly extinguished, he said. As a precaution, a helicopter monitored the fires.
The blazes were set close to one another along the curved road, which is lined with homes on one side and dry hillside on the other.
Arson investigators were working to determine how the fires started.
The National Weather Service warned that the wildfire risk would intensify Thursday as temperatures went past the 100-degree mark in several L.A. County cities.
