Official Six Nations team of the tournament announced as six Wales players named

Six Wales players have been named in the official Six Nations team of the tournament.

Alun Wyn Jones, Ken Owens, Wyn Jones, Taulupe Faletau, George North and Louis Rees-Zammit dominate the selection which was voted for by around 1.3 million fans.

The team, released by the Six Nations on Wednesday evening, contains no English players and only one Frenchman, in superstar scrum-half Antoine Dupont.

There are five Irish players, led by skipper Johnny Sexton, and three Scots.

Welsh players arguably unlucky to miss out include flanker Justin Tipuric, who is beaten to selection by Lions number seven rival Hamish Watson.

The six who have made it each had outstanding tournaments and are all leading candidates to make Warren Gatland's Lions squad.

Faletau and Rees-Zammit are both on the six-man shortlist for player of the tournament, the result of which will be announced later this week.

The Six Nations team of the tournament in full:

15. Stuart Hogg, 14. Louis Rees-Zammit, 13. George North, 12. Robbie Henshaw, 11. Duhan van der Merwe, 10. Johnny Sexton, 9. Antoine Dupont, 1. Wyn Jones, 2. Ken Owens, 3. Tadhg Furlong, 4. Tadhg Beirne, 5. Alun Wyn Jones, 6. CJ Stander, 7. Hamish Watson, 8. Taulupe Faletau
