Official opening date for Bub's Bar new Cardiff venture Scaredy Cat announced

A new cafe-bar with coffee, cocktails, and more is set to open in Cardiff city centre. The team behind the popular Bub's Bar and Kitchen in Church Street announced their new venture back in January after the bar's lease came to an end.

Now, the team's new venture is set to open in a few weeks time. Scaredy Cats Cafe Bar will open on May 19 on Working Street in the city centre. The cafe-bar, which has recently acquired its new sign, will be open between 9am and 9pm serving coffee, cocktails, craft beer and food.

Speaking to WalesOnline about the opening, owner of the business Chris Rowlands, said that he was "over the moon" to open the new cafe-bar: "The guys have done a cracking job and we're just quite keen to get the doors open. It's all going great."

He continued: "It's a bit of a departure [from Bub's] because it's more of a cafe-bar, so it's as much day-time and food-based as it is night-time [based], so it's a bit of a different direction for us to go down the coffee, cakes, and homemade food route. But, we're quite looking forward to the challenge."

In a post announcing the opening date, the team behind the new venture said that there will also be a shelf of board games for customers to play when they visit. The post, which appeared across the cafe-bar's social media channels, read: "9am-9pm, coffee, cocktails, craft beer, food aaaand you heard it here first - we will be having a big ol' shelf full of amazing board games for you to peruse and play at your leisure. Stick it in your diaries pals, cannot wait to welcome you in and show you what we've all been working on!"

Bub's Bar and Kitchen in Church Street announced in November last year that it would close for good this month after its lease came to an end.The Church Street venue is set to become burger chain restaurant, Fat Hippo, which is set to open on May 20. The chain, which first started in 2010 in the North East of England, has 12 other locations across the UK but Cardiff will be its first in Wales.
