NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: A local official was arrested on Monday evening, accused of firing multiple gunshots at his elderly neighbour's home in Chang Klang district last Thursday.

Police said Teerapong Sriput, a district administrative official, was taken into detention under a warrant issued by the Thung Song court.

He was charged with attempted murder, trespassing at night, illegal possession of a firearm and coercion. Mr Teerapong denied all charges.

Last Thursday night, Mr Teerapong allegedly fired shots from a 9mm pistol at the house of his 86-year-old neighbour, Surin Silarat, in Moo 11 village of tambon Chang Klang, Chang Klang district.

Mr Surin's grandson Wirat Chaisri, 38, was arriving home at the time and ran for his life because the gun was pointing in his direction.

The family said they were surprised by the attack because they had no conflict with Mr Teerapong. There were about 10 bullet holes in their house.
