Officers slam 'appalling' drink driver who blew FIVE times over the limit

Police have slammed the actions of one driver in Wigan, after they allegedly blew five times over the legal limit.

Officers from the B relief team were patrolling near Wigan Police Station yesterday evening, June 29, when they spotted a vehicle driving poorly on Scot Lane.

After pulling the vehicle over and speaking with the driver, police asked them to give a roadside breath specimen.

Officers could barely believe their eyes when the result allegedly came back as 191 micrograms per 100ml of breath - more than five times the legal limit of 35.

The driver was arrested and taken back to the station, where police say they failed to give another sample in custody.

Members of the GMP Wigan West policing team took to social media to display their disbelief, saying it was "appalling" that someone would consider driving in such a condition.

An officer said: "B relief response requested driver of a vehicle to stop today on Scot Lane due to their manner of driving.

"Suspicions were raised on speaking to the driver and they were requested to provide a roadside breath specimen.

"Astonishingly this came back as 191 micrograms per 100ml of breath, over 5 times the legal limit which is 35.

"Driver was arrested and then failed to provide a further sample in custody so will be charged when sober.

"Quite how anyone can think it is acceptable to get behind the wheel in such a state is appalling.

"Undoubtedly a life saved this evening."
