Officers searching for missing Hamilton man recover a body from River Clyde

A body has been recovered from the River Clyde in Hamilton in the search for missing Catalin Stan.

Police say formal identification is yet to take place however the family of the 37-year-old, last seen on Wednesday, September 2, have been informed.

The discovery was made at around noon on Monday, September 7, after officers appealed for Catalin’s whereabouts a week prior.

He was last seen at the Days Inn at Hamilton Services, but it is believed he had gone missing on August 26.

A police statement said: “Police Scotland can confirm that at around noon on Monday, 7 September, 2020, the body of a man was recovered from River Clyde in Hamilton.

“Formal identification has yet to take place however the family of 37-year-old Catalin Stan, who was reported missing from Hamilton on Tuesday, 1 September 2020, has been informed.”

Catalin, originally from Romania, was pictured in police appeals over the past week as concern grew for his welfare.
